Overview
This Tabriz comes from India and measures 342 × 240 cm. That is roughly 8.21 m² of floor, about 11.2' × 7.9'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 30 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Age
Stated condition: Neu.
