The piece in short
This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 300 × 204 cm. It covers approximately 6.12 m², or 9.8' × 6.7'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: Handgesponnene Wolle in the pile over a cotton foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 18 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is multicolour. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Age
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
