The piece in short
This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 290 × 200 cm. That is roughly 5.8 m² of floor, about 9.5' × 6.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: wool in the pile over a cotton foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 18 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A size where sofa and armchairs can rest their front legs on the rug.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
Colour and appearance
The stated colourway is Braun / Gelb. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
