The piece in short
A Nain from Iran, measuring 205 × 200 cm. That is roughly 4.1 m² of floor, about 6.7' × 6.6'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is square. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². A knot count at this level belongs to the upper quality class of handmade rugs.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as blue / Türkis. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
